Part of my mountain bike collection of designs. This one has become a massive hit with mountain bikers everywhere. In 2022 when much of the world was amid lockdowns and forced isolations inside the confines of homes and apartments, I came up with this slogan as a kind of humorous and defiant take on the pandemic fever that was rampant everywhere. Contrary to the constant mainstream drumming of staying indoors, I wanted to promote the opposite.
A tongue-in-cheek take on the traditional saying, “think outside the box,” I took it one step further and eliminated the box! Mountain biking is a sport of freedom and enjoying natural elements, so I wanted to convey that free spirit and natural beauty when I did this piece. The North Shore mountains of Vancouver come to mind, with dense and damp wooded terrain bisected by snow-melting creeks and springs.
In this design, a mountain bike rider descends steep, misty forest terrain with a stream in the foreground. There is a passion for the thrill of the ride. In this one, I kept the colour pallet limited to more muted earth tones. True freedom without the box!
