La Vuelta España

Bike

La Vuelta España (Tour of Spain) is the counterpart of the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia. Raced primarily in Spain, it’s a 21-day-long race inspired by the success of its neighbouring countries’ events. It was first held in 1935 and has been held consecutively throughout the years (with the exception of the Spanish Civil War and WWII).

La Vuelta Espana is an event held in high regard and prestige by cycling fans. Like other Grande Tours of this calibre, it has a jersey for each of the race categories such as Mountain, Sprint, and Best Young Rider. The course changes each year, but the format includes time trials and a gruelling passage through the Pyrenees that culminates in the final stage in Madrid, the nation’s capital.

The leading cyclist with the lowest accumulated time wins the Red Jersey. Just as with the other Grande Tour events, there are points and jerseys allocated to the Best Sprinter, Climber, and Under 23 categories.

This poster is a commemoration of the event. I felt inspired to use an iconic, cultural element of Spain, so the Flamenco dancer felt like an appropriate choice that reflects the firey passion of both spectators and competitors. A perfect addition to any cycling pain cave.
